White Sands National Park is a 275 square mile stretch of desert that houses the world's largest gypsum dunefield. The park is surrounded by a military missile range, so closures are common due to testing. When you can visit however, you can expect gorgeous views of the pure white gypsum sands and sapphire blue skies. The park features an 8-mile Dunes Drive, hiking in the Interdune Boardwalk, sand sledding, and ranger-led sunset strolls.
Dripping Springs Natural Area, located 10 miles east of Las Cruces, NM, in the Organ Mountains, is a popular outdoor area with over four miles of easy hiking trails. Trails include the popular ~3-mile roundtrip Dripping Springs Trail, where you can experience the desert plant and wildlife.
Spaceport America is the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport, located on 18,000 acres in New Mexico's Jornada del Muerto desert, 45 miles north of Las Cruces. While primarily an operational facility, tours are available. Spaceport America occasionally hosts public launches, depending on restrictions set by our launch customers and safety advisors. The Farmers & Crafts Market of Las Cruces is a top-ranked, year-round, open-air market held on Downtown Main Street on Saturdays and the Plaza de Las Cruces on Wednesdays, featuring over 200 local vendors.
